This research seeks to generate a detailed 3-D model of the shallow shear-wave velocity (VS) structure of the Jakarta Basin, thereby overcoming the limitations of previous models that fell short of encompassing the entire basin edge due to data constraints. Between April and October 2018, we established a new temporary seismic network, aiming to expand the spatial reach beyond the 2013 setup. This was achieved by strategically sampling 143 locations across Jakarta and its adjacent areas, using 30 broadband sensors in sequential deployments. Our analysis of Rayleigh wave phase velocity dispersion curves, obtained from seismic noise, involved a 2-stage transdimensional Bayesian inversion. Starting with tomography, we constructed 2-D phase velocity maps, covering the period spectrum from 1 second to 5 seconds. At each point on a grid covering these maps, each dispersion curve is inverted, resulting in a one-dimensional VS depth profile. Finally, interpolation of profiles at gridpoints, with a 2-kilometer separation, results in the creation of a pseudo-3-D VS model. The southern margin of the Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments is revealed through our results. A basement offset in south Jakarta has been resolved. We hypothesize a potential correlation with the western continuation of the Baribis Fault, or possibly, the West Java Backarc Thrust. Earthquake ground motion simulations in the Jakarta Basin are facilitated by this 3-D model, which we recommend using. To determine the need for a revised seismic hazard and risk assessment in Greater Jakarta, including basin resonance and amplification, these simulations would be essential.
